Welcome to Michael Dods Racing
Racehorse trainer Michael Dods, based at Denton Hall near Piercebridge in Co Durham, has held a licence since 1990 when taking over the reins on the death of his father Dickie. He combines racehorse training with running a 540 acre farm and this has a direct benefit on the horses in his care as the feed is supplemented with best quality home grown haylage. The last few years have seen Michael become one of the North's leading flat racehorse trainers. In both 2008 and 2009 he sent out 49 winners netting £332,000 and £377,000 respectively in prize money.
Barney McGrew, ridden by Phillip Makin, wins the totesport.com Chipchase Stakes (Group 3) at Newcastle - June 2010
As a result of his recent success, Michael has increased the capacity of the yard to 70 boxes and upgraded the facilities at Denton Hall. These include a second 6 furlong all weather sand gallop and a 7 furlong grass gallop as well as an additional horse walker. He starts the 2010 turf flat season with his best ever team of horses which includes 30 juveniles. Denton Hall will be sponsored this year for the first time by the Stobart Haulage Group.
Kaptain Kirkup, ridden by Tom Eaves, wins on the opening day of York´s May 2010 Meeting
Michael's philosophy is very straightforward - he does not like to run horses in races
were he does not think they have a chance of winning. He is also a great believer in
being totally honest when dealing with his owners with regard to the ability of the horses
in his care. There has never been a better time to join Michael and get involved in the
'Sport of Kings'. So if you are an existing owner looking for a new racehorse trainer or
whether you are keen to take your first steps into racehorse ownership - maybe you would
like to take a share in one of the Denton Hall Syndicate horses - then why not contact
Michael today.
