Dods' horses 'thriving' ahead of second runs in Bahrain

TWO of Michael Dods’ best known horses are reported to be in good fettle ahead of their second races in Bahrain this week.

Dual Stewards' Cup winner Commanche Falls runs over six furlongs in The Hawar Cup tomorrow (Thursday), with Connor Beasley flying out for the ride.

Seven-times winner Northern Express then runs in The Bahrain Mile on Friday with regular rider Paul Mulrennan in the saddle.

The horses flew out to Bahrain from Stansted Airport in December and had their first runs on January 2. Commanche Falls was a fine second in the Al Riffa Cup, and Northern Express was a solid sixth in the Southern Governorate Cup Stakes.

Assistant trainer Chloe Dods, who is over in Bahrain overseeing the horses, said today: “They both came out of those races really well and they’ve improved for the runs. They seem to be enjoying a change of scenery and are thriving.”

The horses are scheduled to return to Denton Hall in early March, with more runs scheduled before they fly back.
