First foal of Mecca's Angel poised for debut at The Curragh on Sunday

THE first foal of our former star sprinter Mecca's Angel is poised for his racecourse debut in Ireland at the weekend.
The beautiful bay colt, by Galileo, runs in the Barronstown Stud Irish European Breeders Fund (C & G) Maiden at over seven furlongs at The Curragh at 2.35pm on Sunday.
Michael Dods, who trained Mecca's Angel during a glittering career, said: "She was a wonderful servant to us and it will be really exciting to see her first foal on the racecourse. He could hardly be better bred, so lets hope he does his mother proud."
Hudson River is trained by Aidan O'Brien, ridden by Seamie Heffernan, and owned by Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier, and Michael Tabor.
It all adds up to an exciting Sunday for Mecca's Angel's former owner David Metcalfe, who has Mecca's Hot Steps running a couple of hours earlier at Hamilton.
Mecca's Angel, pictured with regular partner Paul Mulrennan, made history as the first horse in more than 30 years to win the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York two years running.
