Michael Dods Racing reaches the 1,000 milestone

MICHAEL Dods has reached the 1,000-winner mark with Bold Territories' victory under Oliver Stammers in The Best Odds Guaranteed At Vickers.Bet Everyday Handicap (Division II) at Newcastle.

The four-year-old gelding got up in the final strides to follow up his Wolverhampton victory last month.

Michael succeeded his late father, Dickie Dods, and trained his first winner when Rural Outfit won a novice hurdle at Sedgefield in April 1991, ridden by Alan Merrigan. That was followed a month later by Blue Grit winning on the Flat at Redcar under Alex Greaves.

Highlghts over the years have included Mecca's Angel's historic back-to-back victories in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes, at York, in 2015 and 2016, and Mabs Cross winning the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp in 2018. Commanche Falls also made history this year by becoming the first horse in more than half a century to win consecutive Stewards' Cups at Glorious Goodwood.

Michael said: "Naturally, it's nice to hit the milestone of 1,000 winners, and it's testament to the hard work of all the team at Denton Hall. We'd also like to thank the owners and jockeys who've supported us over the years."
